During the Platform State of the Union event held as part of WWDC 2018 , Apple reiterated its commitment to ensuring proper privacy and user safety. In addition, the company told about a number of interesting innovations related to the organization and management of passwords.
Overview of the innovations shown:
– “Keychain” will be able to offer its own versions of strong passwords when creating them. In addition, this tool can flag weak and insecure passwords created by the user, and also warn if the same combination is used for multiple accounts.
– There was an opportunity to autocomplete passwords from third-party password managers, like 1Password. Developers have become available API, through which it will work not only in Safari, but in any other applications.
– With the release of the new version, Siri will be able to provide the user with access to the “Keychain”. To do this, just sound the appropriate query, and then confirm the input using Face ID / Touch ID or by using a passcode.
– The possibility of autocomplete passwords from other devices is announced, if they are nearby. One of the conditions is that the login must be made under the same Apple ID account.
At the presentation it was noted that the above changes will find their application not only in iOS 12, but also in macOS Mojave and tvOS 12. Thus, the company significantly simplified the interaction with passwords on all its platforms.
How to roll back from iOS 12
If you installed iOS 12 on your device and got a “brick” or simply not happy with the speed and stability of the operating system, you can perform a “rollback” to the proven iOS 11.4until Apple stopped signing it. This is not difficult at all, we’ll tell you later how.
Let’s start with the most important: if you do not want to lose your data after the “rollback”, you should have a backup of the device with iOS 11.4 – in iCloud or in iTunes on the computer. If you forget to make a backup before installing iOS 12 and do not want to lose data, it’s best not to read further.
So, we need a computer with the latest version of iTunes, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch with iOS 12 and the installation file iOS 11.4, which is downloaded for your device you can here. After that, connect the gadget to the computer, open iTunes, and then with the Option key pressed (for Mac) or Shift (for Windows), click on the “Update” button.
In the window that appears, select the installation file that you downloaded in the previous step, accept all agreements and perform the installation. Once the rollback is complete, iTunes prompts you to restore the device from a backup or configure it as a new one. You can restore it both with the help of backup from iCloud, and with a backup in iTunes on your computer.
iOS 12 impresses with speed and battery life, so this instruction is probably only used by those who are experiencing serious problems after the update. Moreover, even on older devices, the new OS behaves stably.
